The production, starring Dominic West, Janet McTeer, Una Stubbs, Adjoa Andoh and the rest of the Donmar Theatre production cast was directed by Zoe Ford and produced by Mariele Runacre Temple. Editing was done by Matt Thompson with original music by Michael Bruce.
We’re also delighted that Killer Women which we also produced, read by Adjoah Andoh, Carl Prekopp, Rachel Atkins and Clare Corbett and directed by Cherry Cookson is up for the Audie for Short Stories/Collection.
We were lucky enough to win two Audies in 2016 for our multi-cast production of The Jungle Book, so it is an honour to be nominated again – good luck to all the finalists!

It may have been a confusing year for many – but certainly not for audio theatre. Here at WTC, we have been involved in some really exciting projects and are so in awe of the world of audio drama and how it’s changing before our very eyes…. ears?!
When we first started making downloadable radio drama (way back in 2007), there weren’t really many others doing it, but we were passionate and confident that the internet was a brilliant new home for radio drama.
In just this past last year we have seen a new audience emerging and with that, an exciting new host of producers, directors, writers and engineers and communities, all pushing the boundaries and bringing a new voice. Some fantastic new audiodrama series have emerged, leaving listeners desperate to download their next fix, as well as some stunning soundscapes for traditional based ‘dramas’. People are creating and learning new techniques, sharing ideas and, to be honest, we’re almost struggling to keep up with the demand! What a great position to be in. It is no longer a ‘battle to keep radio drama alive’ but a wonderful time to be an ‘audio drama producer’ and long may it continue.
We are so excited about what 2017 and beyond will bring for online audio drama and we can’t wait to discover it with you! A very Merry Christmas to all our listeners and an audio-tastic New Year!
If you know an audiodrama lover who you think would like to access our catalogue of 200 plays, why not get them a voucher for just £25?
We topped off a lovely year for Wireless Theatre by recording a comedy by new writer Laura Harvey in front of a packed out audience at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre. The 60 seater theatre sits above a fantastic pub which was super festive and serves lovely food. The recording was directed by Cherry Cookson, one of our most prolific directors and starred Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey, Pride & Prejudice), Geoffrey Whitehead (Not Going Out), David Timson, Stephen Critchlow, Rachel Atkins, Jessica Dennis, Sarah Whitehouse and Adam Hall. With live sound effects performed by Jessica Bowles and our regular dream team at the lighting and sound desk, Tshari King, Gareth Brown and Izzie Newbury.
Ladies was inspired by the very real and very fraught campaign at the turn of the 20th Century to build a ladies’ loo just outside Camden Town tube. Restricted toilet facilities for women were causing social, political and economic problems at the time, to address the issue a proposal to build a women’s public convenience on Park St was made to the St Pancras Vestry council, and greeted with unsurprising but enthusiastic horror. The story behind the radio play is very real, although the characters were created by the writer for your titillation.
Check out these photos of the technical and dress rehearsals by the brilliant Mike Garnell.
